Spring cleaning? Got clothes? Think consignment. Want to freshen up your wardrobe? Again, consignment.
Did you know that the average person throws away 70 lbs of textile waste per year? It's a good thing we've got the Council for Textile Recycling working for us to build awareness and put sustainable practices into place. They tell us that"While the EPA estimates that the textile recycling industry recycles approximately 3.8 billion pounds of post-consumer textile waste (PCTW) each year, this only accounts for approximately 15% of all PCTW, leaving 85% in our landfills."
Their motto is, "Wear, Donate, Recycle". And buy used.
All this. $60 at The Closet at 144th and Center. I love to buy used clothes! They're just as beautiful as when they were new. They're cheaper. They don't add to the incessent influx of new textiles in our overconsumption society. No new materials, no new transportation energy spent. Buying used clothes supports local people and businesses. What's good for the Earth is good for us!
