The Tree of Heaven Is No Angel

Years ago, the tree of heaven, native to China, was popular in urban landscapes because it was a fast-grower and thrived in almost any soil. Well, then we learned that it thrived a bit too much. It sends out a chemical through its roots that harms and kills plants that want to live around it. If you cut it down, it voraciously sends up new shoots underground.

Now, we don't want to use chemicals on the landscape if there is another way, but, the tree of heaven is very invasive and is damaging our native landscape, so we weigh the pros and cons. The first video below walks through identifying and killing the tree of heaven, with chemicals, somewhat quickly. The second provides an organic method that takes a bit more time.
