Rain Catchment

Rain water, once easily absorbed naturally into the ground, is being lost as contaminated runoff to sewers and streams, causing harm to the ecosystem. We can manage rain water differently by managing it on our property.

A rain garden is a garden of native shrubs, perennials, and flowers planted in a small depression, which is generally formed on a natural slope.  It holds water temporarily so more water soaks into the ground, the nutrients are absorbed, and chemicals and pollutants are filtered out by the vegetation on the way down.
