It's important as we regenerate the planet that we rethink how we interact with land and plants.  Traditional lawns do not provide the biodiversity that the earth needs to regenerate itself and to store carbon and hold water, but we can't play soccer in a field of native grasses.  So how much lawn do we need and how "perfect" do we need it to be? Consider that fertilizers, even organic ones, prohibit the natural processes of plants, and pesticides, even organics ones, affect life in the soil.  That said, plant-based products are healthier for us, our pets and wildlife, and the planet.
